Choosing a Caique as a Pet
Are youconsidering adding a caique (pronounced ki-eeks) to your family?
Caiques are not known for their talking ability but they make up for it in their ability to make you laugh. The caiques are considered to be the "clowns of the bird world".
The average size of the caique is about nine inches in length. The perfect size for a smaller home. There are two species of the caiques - the black headed caique and the white bellied caique.
All Caiques come from South America. White-bellied Caiques are
found mainly in Northern Brazil, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru.
Black-headed Caiques are found mainly in the Guianas, Colombia,
Ecuador, Peru and Venezuala.
Caiques are very energetic and you should consider purchasing the largest cage you can afford. They like to keep very busy and are a blast to just sit back and watch.
In the wild, the caiques bathe on wet leaves. In our homes, they love to roll around on a wet towel or play in the freshly washed hair of their favorite human.
